Stora Enso
csrnetwork has been the independent assurance provider for Stora Enso - the Finnish/Swedish paper, packaging and forest-products company - since 2004.
Our role involves interviews with senior managers to assess governance arrangements and the link between business strategy and sustainability; a detailed review data collection systems; web-based research of sector issues and best practice; and visits to Stora Enso sites to test data systems, stakeholder engagement mechanisms and materiality processes. In 2006, we visited sites in China, Finland and Poland. The process was conducted with reference to the AA1000 Assurance Standard.
As a result of our work, we were able to give our opinion on the accuracy and completeness of the report. For example, we commented on the robustness of the data collection systems, acknowledging improvements made since the last report and highlighting areas that needed attention.
In 2007, Stora Enso commissioned csrnetwork to follow the assurance with a detailed workshop on materiality. This workshop identified and prioritised sustainability issues based on stakeholder feedback and the company strategy. The outcomes of this workshop will be used by Stora Enso to develop more responsive systems and reporting.
